Shanghai Expo Opening Wows the World

Foti has just successfully completed designing and project managing the Opening Ceremony Fireworks for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. Staged on over 320 locations on the Huangpu River, foreshore and Lupu Bridge, the fireworks formed part of the biggest multimedia production ever staged. The firing platforms included 15 barges, 7 rooftops, almost 3km of foreshore and Shanghai's landmark Oriental Pearl Tower.

Over 1200 lights, 16 lasers and the world's biggest LED screen (280m x 33m) combined with almost 200,000 pyrotechnics effects in the 30 minute David Atkins Enterprises (DAE) produced spectacular. The pyrotechnic elements were also integrated with over 200 boats, 6000 illuminated balls and fixed and moveable water fountains. A Foti team was based full-time in Shanghai for four months in the lead up to the production.

Attending the Opening Ceremony was Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China as well as leading figures from the Governments of China and many of the 190 participating countries.
